Additional Compliance and Certifications
RoHS, which stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances, is a critical environmental directive originating from the European Union. Its purpose is to protect human health and the environment by restricting the use of specific hazardous materials commonly found in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).
The directive limits the concentration of ten substances, including lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium, which can be harmful if they leach into the environment during product disposal.
At Suntsu Electronics, our commitment to providing RoHS compliant components ensures you can build with confidence, knowing your supply chain meets these vital global standards.
REACH is a comprehensive European Union regulation that stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. Its primary aim is to enhance the protection of human health and the environment from the risks posed by chemical substances.
Unlike RoHS, which restricts a specific list of substances in electronic equipment, REACH has a much broader scope. It requires companies to report and manage the risks associated with the chemicals used in their products sold within the EU.
A key focus for the electronics industry is the management of substances of very high concern (SVHCs). If a component or product contains an SVHC above a concentration of 0.1% by weight, manufacturers have a legal obligation to communicate this to their customers. The SVHC list is updated periodically, requiring ongoing vigilance.
Suntsu Electronics is committed to upholding REACH regulations. We diligently monitor the SVHC list and work with our supply chain partners to ensure we can provide our customers with the necessary information to maintain their compliance, simplifying the challenge of navigating these complex global standards.
California Proposition 65 (Prop 65) is a state-specific law known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. Its goal is to inform Californians about potential exposures to chemicals that the state has identified as causing cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
The law requires California to publish and maintain a list of these chemicals, which currently includes over 900 substances. Businesses are required to provide a “clear and reasonable warning” on products that could expose consumers to any of these listed chemicals.
For OEMs and manufacturers, understanding the chemical makeup of their components is essential for Prop 65 compliance. Failing to provide a necessary warning on a final product sold in California can lead to significant legal penalties.
Suntsu Electronics is committed to helping its customers navigate these complex regulations. We work to provide information about listed substances in our components, empowering you to conduct the necessary assessments and ensure your finished products meet all Prop 65 warning requirements.
The European Union’s Medical Device Regulation (MDR) 2017/745 represents a significant update to the regulatory framework for medical devices sold within the EU. It establishes a more robust system to ensure a high level of public health and patient safety, replacing the previous Medical Device Directive (MDD).
The MDR imposes stricter requirements on medical device manufacturers throughout a product’s entire lifecycle. This includes more rigorous demands for clinical evaluation, quality management, post-market surveillance, and supply chain transparency.
Suntsu Electronics is a trusted partner for companies in the medical device industry. We understand the stringent demands of the MDR and support our customers by providing reliable sourcing, robust documentation, and expert obsolescence management services. We help you build a resilient and compliant supply chain, allowing you to focus on bringing safe and effective medical innovations to market.
At Suntsu Electronics, our commitment to environmental responsibility extends beyond the components we sell to the packaging they arrive in. We proudly certify our compliance with the Reduction of Toxics in Packaging laws, a set of regulations adopted by numerous U.S. states to protect the environment and public health.
Based on the Model Toxics in Packaging Legislation, these state-level laws are designed to minimize the environmental impact of packaging waste. The regulation restricts the combined concentration of four specific heavy metals in any packaging or packaging component to 100 parts per million (ppm). The restricted metals are:
- Lead (Pb)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6)
This ensures that when packaging is disposed of, these hazardous substances do not leach into soil and groundwater from landfills or get released into the atmosphere during incineration.
For our customers, this compliance provides an essential layer of assurance. It guarantees that the packaging materials you receive—from the outer box to the inner ESD bag—are safe to handle and meet stringent U.S. environmental standards.
By partnering with Suntsu, you can be confident that every aspect of your order is managed with the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental stewardship, ensuring the integrity of your supply chain from start to finish.
